Dean of the College of Business Administration

California State University San Marcos

California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) seeks a creative, entrepreneurial, and community-
minded leader to serve as the next Dean of the College of Business Administration (CoBA or the College). CoBA began as one of the foundational programs established when CSUSM was still a satellite campus of the CSU system, and to this day the College carries forward that pioneering spirit, serving as an engine for innovation and excellence. Recently AACSB-accredited, CoBA seeks a leader who can realize the College’s tremendous potential, enhance fundraising efforts, and build on excellence in academic programming, student and alumni success, and contributions to regional development and economic vitality. Since CSUSM’s inception, CoBA has served the region with distinction by providing a cadre of skilled, thoughtful, and engaged students and alumni. Thus from the very beginning, CoBA has consistently engaged with local business leaders and provided innovative programming that has profoundly impacted the region. More than 85% of its alumni stay in the region after they graduate and contribute to the growth of their organizations and the prosperity of their communities. The College has grown tremendously over the past 30 years and in fall 2021 welcomed over 2,500 undergraduate and MBA students to Markstein Hall and to the CSUSM at Temecula campus. CoBA is also the birthplace of Senior Experience, a unique signature educational program that pairs teams of senior business administration majors with local organizations in a project-based consulting experience. It has been said that CSUSM is “the largest start-up in a region of start-ups,” and CoBA plays a key role in educating and training the region’s future employees and leaders. The College embraces its role as a growth engine for the multiple nearby communities found in San Diego County, southern Orange County, and southwestern Riverside County. The campus will soon finalize a new strategic plan, charting a course for the next five years of growth, innovation, and impact for CSUSM’s remarkably diverse student body. The Dean will join CoBA at a moment of great optimism, with a unique opportunity to establish a bold path forward for the College, provide strategic leadership and shrewd financial management, enhance student success, strengthen external engagement and bolster fundraising, and grow interdisciplinary synergies across the College and the University. The Dean will be a dynamic presence and a careful listener, with the capacity to empower faculty and staff as partners in leadership, and driven by a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
